Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a merging galaxy trio located 0.8 billion light years away in the constellation of Bootes at a declination of +15 degrees.  It is a magnitude 15 object which spans 40 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a width of 160,000 light years.

I was hoping to find something about this object out there, but my search for information on IC 1015 only turned up images of trains.

I think I see 3 cores here, signaling a merger of a trio of small galaxies, but anything is possible.  I like the curving (looping?) star stream tails.  It looks a bit like NGC 1540 or Arp 63.
