Description

NGC 1398 is a spiral galaxy in the Fornax constellation, around 65 million light years from earth.

A striking feature of this galaxy is the ring structure around its core region. It's likely a density wave that's expanding. In plain English, think of it as a region that's slightly denser than its surroundings; making it stand out.

If you're interested in learning how and why this phenomenon manifests itself; I recommend giving the following link a read (which in my eyes explains it perfectly in terms that should be understandable to anyone).
