Description

NGC 6165 ranks up there as one of my favourite galactic objects for the simple reason that it captures the dynamic nature of the processes of star death and birth in one image. The inner nebula clearly shows a star ripping itself to pieces as it ages (don't we all?!) and the extended shockwave of ejected material demonstrates how one (tiny?) star can have an influence on its surroundings for light years either side, something I still find hard to wrap my brain around.

After playing with several iterations of the data including RGBHSO, RGBHOO and HSO, I settled on using AstroPixelProcessor's HOO2 palette which results in a wonderfully warm yellow background and a pleasing blue-white hue to the expanding shell.
