Description

This object is an emission nebula located 1600 light years away in the constellation of Orion at a declination of +1 degrees. Barnard's Loop (also known as Sh2-276) is huge, forming a half circle around Orion and extending for over 10 degrees. This image only captures the brightest segment of the loop, a 2 degree wide section. The wonderful reflection nebula M78 is seen in the upper right corner.

This object is believed to be a supernova remnant but that assumption is still being debated. In my image, I don't believe that it looks like a SNR, at least not like any that I have imaged so far. Observers under dark skies are supposedly able to see this object with the naked eye, which I find to be incredible.
