Description

I wanted to try something for fun from my backyard and do a widefield galaxy project of the Virgo Cluster and Markarian's Chain. This was the result of about 4.5 hours of data using my Samyang 135mm lens, and Zwo ASI294MC camera. This was shot from our (very) light-polluted back yard over the Richmond, VA light dome.

From a visual inspection, I've spotted over thirty galaxies in this photo...some of which are well over 100 million light-years away. Even the nearest galaxies in this image are over 40-50 million light-years away meaning they only relatively recently "observed" the extinction of the dinosaurs whereas the most distant "see" light from the Milky Way from the Jurassic to early Cretaceous periods.

I hope you enjoy this image back in time!
