Description

LDN1464 in NGC1499 (Per)

Today is new moon ... and as too often, the sky is covered with clouds. it is raining and thunderstorms are predicted for the next days. Nevertheless – happiness: The last 4 nights, approaching new moon, were beautifully clear, dry, with only some soft wind streams every now and then. Good transparency and seeing made these 4 nights exceptionally useful for observing the night sky and taking photos, considering it's still summer and the nights are not long and dark.

Due to some hassle with KStars / Ekos / INDI @ Astroberry (RasPi4) I couldn't setup everything in time and had only 2 hours left for an imaging session. Because NGC1499 in Perseus was already high up in the NE, I decided to try it. Unguided and with only estimated PA, I took only 120 x 60s images which all showed the stars eggs shaped. Thus, I shrinked the 32Mpx image a lot make them appear smaller.

LDN1464 is a lovely, deep dark, high contrast nebula which I think of as being "the eye" of the California Nebula.
