Description

UNGUIDED

IC 410, the very appropriately named Tadpole Nebula, two very obvious tadpoles are very visible in one of the first images I took with the new CDK20.
For the first 4 weeks it was configured with the 0.66x reducer, producing a FOV of 36'x54' at 2280mm and F/4.5.
The extra FOV was very useful for this target, which would have been cramped without it.
The reducer worked really well, but it forced me to run unguided, the very short back focus not allowing an OAG, so I have now removed it.

The Tadpole Nebula (IC 410) is an emission nebula around an open star cluster (NGC 1893). The “tadpoles” are clumps of gas and dust from the formation of the cluster. Inside them, new stars are born. The tails from the “tadpoles” are caused by the solar wind of the stars of NGC 1893 (that’s why they point away from the star cluster).

NASA:
What's all of the commotion in the Tadpole nebula? Star formation. Dusty emission in the Tadpole nebula, IC 410, lies about 12,000 light-years away in the northern constellation of the Charioteer (Auriga). The cloud of glowing gas is over 100 light-years across, sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from embedded open star cluster NGC 1893. Formed in the interstellar cloud a mere 4 million years ago, bright newly formed cluster stars are seen all around the star-forming nebula. Notable near the image center are two relatively dense streamers of material trailing away from the nebula's central regions. Potentially sites of ongoing star formation in IC 410, these cosmic tadpole shapes are about 10 light-years long.
