Description

Popularly known as rho Ophiuchi, this region full of nebulae of the most varied types is one of the most beautiful in the whole sky, coming from the yellow nebula of the Antares reflection, the reflection of Rho Ophiuchi and Pi Scorpii, and also a huge amount of dark nebulosity. In it, the most exuberant objects of the winter sky are combined in an incredible palette of the most diverse colors.

Considerably my most difficult project so far, this photograph is a 9-panel mosaic, with 18 to 20 frames of 2 minutes each. In other words, each panel has only 40 minutes of exposure! Processing was a big challenge, both because it was a complicated region and because my notebook with only 4GB ram made each task more time-consuming. Fortunately, I was able to count on the help of my great friend Mauricio Christiano to put the panels together through Astro Pixel Processor. So, I stacked and calibrated each panel individually by AstroPixelProcessor. Even with a lot of initial noise, using efficient reduction techniques I got a clean result.

This result was only possible in such a short time thanks to the stupendous skies of the Serra da Mantiqueira. I wonder how urban humanity began to completely overshadow the beauty of our skies, in search of technological and industrial life, leaving aside its external organs, nature. I hope that from now on, I can bring more of the beauty of the universe to those who cannot see it from cities. I hope you enjoy it!
