Description

This object is a rarely imaged edge-on galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Gemini at a declination of +23 degrees. This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 4.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 130,000 light years.

Not much has been written about this galaxy. I love the classic yellow core / blue arms look of it. The galaxy disk appears a bit warped, as if disturbed slightly by a nearby companion. Numerous small galaxies are visible in the image, but the most likely candidate in my opinion is the irregular-looking blue galaxy (LEDA 213380 ) to the upper right. Alas, I could find no distance information for this small galaxy to confirm it as a candidate.

It is hard to see in this image, but in the Lum master I can see faint signal which is reaching up from the right side of the core area. I am used to seeing slight core bulges, but this looked slightly different to me. You can see it a bit better on the inverted monochrome Astrobin view.
