Description

I've never captured this target before and, this last week, I put 3 different sized scopes on it all at once. They ranged from very wide-field at 250mm to this super close-up at 1645mm.

It looks a lot more like its namesake when viewed from a distance, but the detail really starts to come alive up close. The most distinctive features are the massive dark dust lanes and the smaller black "bok globules". These globules are more dense collections of gas and dark dust. They are also thought to be precursors to star formation.

Also known as NGC281, this nebula can be found in the constellation of Cassiopeia.

I shot this with an EdgeHD 9.25, a 1600MM camera and Astronomik 6nm filters.
It includes 7.5hrs of Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur frames, plus another hour of RGB data for more natural star colours.

Clear skies!
