Description

M31 - The Andromeda Galaxy. This image was taken using about 100 60 second exposures using my RASA 8 F/2 Telescope and a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro Camera.  The data was pre-processed in Astro-Pixel Processor and post-processed in PixInsight and Photoshop.

M31, or The Andromeda Galaxy, is one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way Galaxy.  It is a naked eye object on a clear, dark night with no light pollution.  It is about 152,000 light-years wide (about 4x the size of the Milky Way), and is approximately 2.5 millions light years away.  Fun fact - The Milky Way Galaxy and Andromeda will collide in about 4 billion years.

Notice in the plate solved annotation image as well, it includes M32, M110 and a whole bunch of PGC galaxies.  It also identifies NGC206 which is a giant star cloud/cluster in M31.  You can zoom in and observe some of those as well.
