Description

Messier 65 and 66

2/3 of the famous Leo Triplet. Taken with good skies although a little breezy.

Messier 65 (left) is approximately 35,000,000 ly away and is an intermediate spiral galaxy around 80,000 ly across. It is estimated to be around 13.26 billion years old and consists of 200 billion stars.

Messier 66 (right) is again and intermediate spiral galaxy approximately 31,000,000 ly away and is larger at around 95,000 ly across.
