Description

The Cocoon Galaxy - NGC 4490 (larger) and NGC 4485 (smaller).

NGC4490 is barred spiral galaxy effected by a close meeting with smaller galaxy NGC 4495.

Their close meeting began very intense star forming processes in both galaxies and also in the "bridge" connecting both objects.

The Galaxy has quite a lot of surface brightness with an apparent magnitude 9,5 mag and the position near the zenith, makes it an excellent object for astrophotography

NGC 4490 and NGC 4485 are collectively known as Arp 269. You will find it in the constellation of Canes Venatici
