Description

M1 - Crab Supernova renmant.
Taken over several nights at the end of December. Unfortunately I only have about a 1hour window each night to manage subs acquisitions at a suitable altitude between 50 to 60 degrees as I am shooting from the balcony and there is a roof overhead.

Equipment: Old Celestron C8, Celestron f6.3 reducer, Lumicon Deep Sky filter, Super Polaris mount modified to work with Onstep, unmodified Canon 500D, OAG guiding with ZWO 385.
Subs: best 179 subs of 60seconds each shot over various nights at the end of December with no moon.
No Flats/Bias/Darks.

Processing in Pixinsight and Photoshop. Dynamic background extraction, Levels, Curves, Luminance noise reduction for sky, minimise stars, crop.

Location: Athens, Greece (I reckon Bortle 8)

Having experimented with  Canon 500D (unmodified) I find that i struggle with achieving a nice smooth dark sky . Due to the stretching routines and the fact that the red signal is so much weaker, I find that the red channel is stretched substantially more than the rest and thus ends up very noisy. I have tried to minimise the effect using Photoshop's Camera Raw Filter applied to the sky (nebula is de-selected). I would like a smoother dark sky and stars popping a bit more clearly. Looking to add more data and to modify my Canon for astrophotography.
