Hi astro-folks,
As many of us do each year, I really enjoy visiting The Pleaides again and again... Never tired of imaging it as they are very photogenic to my eyes.
Under fair sky, you could see at least 6 members of this cluster. In 1579, German astronom Maestlin was able to draw 11 stars without the help of any optical instrument.
Reflection nebulae around the brightest stars were once thought to be left over material from the formation of the cluster, but are now considered likely to be an unrelated dust cloud in the interstellar medium through which the stars are currently passing.
Interesting is that tiny spiral galaxy, PGC13696, laying visualy some 15 arcmin on the right from Electra... but 280 Mly behind it. Did you spot it? ;-)
Thanks for looking and stay healthy !
