Description

Messier 53 (NGC 5024) is a globular cluster discovered by German astronomer Johann Elert Bode in 1775. Located in the constellation Coma Berenices, it lies approximately 58,000 light-years from Earth with a radius of 110 light-years. It is estimated to contain 500,000 stars and is approximately 12.67 billion years old.
