      Description

On Sept. 26, 2022, a solar coronal mass ejection unexpectedly produced spectacular aurorae over Iceland.  This was not predicted to occur (the CME was supposed to miss Earth... but didn't).  While camping in the central highlands at Hveravellir, expecting an uneventful night, my wife and I were pleased when the sky exploded with color for hours, extending from horizon to horizon in all directions.  This 10-second timelapse covers approximately 6.4 minutes, and was taken just after 11:00 p.m. local time.  This was my first attempt at a timelapse of aurorae.  The location was relatively flat and featureless but the sky more than made up for it!  This does no justice to the actual event but is still interesting to view.  Hopefully you'll enjoy it, too.
