Description

Last Shot of the Day

I was so pleased to see this Snowy Owl in a tree on my way home on Eagleson Road in rural west Ottawa at 5:15 pm last Sunday. It looked amazing in silhouette against this awesome sunset with the clear blue sky and a lone star in the background.

The next morning, after checking Google maps and my Planetarium program, I realized that this lone star is not actually a star, but the planet Venus.

Astronomy Memory Gem:

Venus "overtakes" Earth every 584 days as it orbits the Sun. As it does so, it changes from the "Evening Star", visible after sunset, to the "Morning Star", visible before sunrise. (Wikipedia)

Gear:

Nikon 5500

Nikon 70-300/f4.5-6.3
