Description

The 2 hours of data stacked here was from the second night of shooting. The first night was quite windy and the resulting data was poor quality so it was discarded.

The processing was a great learning experience for me having never attempted to stack comet images in PI previously. It's definitely not as easy and straight forward as this simplistic image would have you believe. I used the PI Comet stacking workflow video on harrysastroshed as a guide only but a solid base of PI processing knowledge was essential is getting a satisfactory result. Several key deviations were necessary including a basic stretch of the stacked data before pulling out a star mask. Also, the linear fit had to be done the reverse way around to that shown by Harry. Also as Harry points out, I had to adjust the sigma high pixel rejecting to be much lower than Harry did when stacking around the comet in order to get a good amount of the stars to be removed. In the end I probably processed the images about 20 separate times before finalizing on a result that gave round stars and a nice bright round comet.
