Description

It has been a long time since I last posted here - too long, I must say! The past months/weeks have been extremely busy, and I could not really process new images or post already processed ones (a process which I like to take my time, especially to gather more information to make an appropriate description). This image was taken July 2020 from my observatory, during its first nights - its full story can be read from some of my previous images. It was a somewhat simple test, only 45min of integration, which was to be added to my larger mosaic on the area. The data turned better than anticipated, and I ended up processing it as a standalone widefield image: I was surprised with the amount of detail on the surrounding dust clouds, especially for such a short integration (albeit at a f/2 and dark skies). Here I present this 'quick' result.

In the coming weeks I hope I will have more time: lots of images to process and share here - stay tuned as there are great news ahead as well =D

Constructive criticism, comments and suggestions are more than welcome in the comments section. Thank you for taking your time to look at this image!

Date: 22 July 2020

Camera: Canon EOS T4i/650D (mod) at ISO 1600 + Astronomik L2 Clip-In Filter

Optics: Samyang 135mm f/2.0, operated at f/2.0

Mount: Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer, tracking.

Exposure Detail: 45x60s, total 45min or 0.75h

The original description (from my 200mm Blue HH image last year) is below.

This complex lies in the constellation Scorpius along the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy. This is a fantastic object to be imaged, although it never rises much above the horizon for Northern imagers. Being at 22ºS, I have a particularly privileged view of this area. The star near the eye of the horse is embedded in blue reflection nebula IC 4592, over 400 light-years away. The horse's gaze seems fixed on Beta Scorpii, also named Graffias. Toward the top right, near the horse's ear, is another striking bluish reflection nebula, IC 4601. The characteristic blue hue of reflection nebulae is caused by the tendency of interstellar dust to more strongly scatter blue starlight. [1]

The famous “Horsehead Nebula”, B33 in Orion is also a stunning nebula. I find both of them to be interesting and beautiful, but this target happens to be a much better match for my equipment than its tiny black brother.
