Description

The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is a dark nebula of gas and dust that is located 1° south of the star ρ Ophiuchi of the constellation Ophiuchus. At an estimated distance of 400 light years. It is one of the closest star-forming regions .

Also in the image are The brightest star in Scorpius, Antares, the rival of Mars, alpha scorpii, as well as the globular cluster M4, and a fainter globular cluster NGC 6144:
