Description

This object is a galaxy chain of 10 galaxies located a half billion light years away in the constellation of Ursa Minor at a declination of +81 degrees. Each galaxy is about 10 arc-seconds in diameter, which is similar in apparent size to the planet Mercury. In actual size, the galaxies are only about 30,000 light years in diameter. So they appear small in the image because they are small, plus they are very far away.

The galaxy magnitudes range from 15 to 17. This chain is one of the brightest in the Shakhbazian catalog.
