Description

below is my image of Eta Carinae taken from my backyard a few weeks ago. This image is a total of 2 1/2 hours' worth of exposers using a monochrome camera and Ha RGB filters. such a steep learning curve.
Fun facts:
Eta carinae is located approximately 7,502 light years from earth and can only be seen from the southern hemisphere sky 60deg south between Canopus and the southern cross. It is one of the largest star forming regions in our milky way galaxy and over the past few centuries has experienced some major eruptions causing the star to change in brightness over the past 300 years. these fluctuations were observed and documented by famous early astronomer john Herschel. His father William Herschel was a pioneer in early astronomy with discoveries such as infrared radiation and the planet we know as Uranus as well as discovering moons around both Uranus and Saturn.
