Description

This Astrobin Debut Object,  also known as the NGC 7674 group, is a galaxy quartet.  All of them all located 400 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +9 degrees.  In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Galaxies with Narrow Filaments.

This group is also known as Hickson 96.  The mouseover identifies the 4 galaxies that are part of this group.

The largest face-on galaxy at center is NGC 7674 / Hickson 96a.  This magnitude 13 Seyfert galaxy spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years. Its symmetric grand design spiral shape is modified a bit by the companion (Hickson 96c) to the left.  A stellar bridge appears to connect the 2 galaxies, which connects to an outer loop on the right side of NGC 7674.  Most interesting is the faint star stream which extends upwards from NGC 7674 and is barely visible in my image.

Just below and left of NGC 7674 is a small blue dwarf, Hickson 96d.  Further to the left is the elliptical galaxy known as both NGC 7675 and Hickson 96b.  I don’t see disturbance in these 2 galaxies.
