Description

Sh2-312, the Great Comet Nebula in Pyxis.

I'm not too sure just how much of this extended nebulosity constitutes Sh2-312, but this view sure looks fine to me.

A four panel mosaic, each 13x300 sec subs. Imaged at 2x2 binning then drizzle stacked for EZ suite processing including noise reduction, soft stretch and a touch of local histogram equalization, followed by 50% downsampling.

Afterward, one pass of EZ's Adam Block star reduction; with a final noise reduction tweak in Affinity Photo plus curves trim.

This session was challenging due to the dim nature of the nebulae, their low ~26 degree altitude at my observing latitude, and variations in sky transparency from one panel to the next. The whole thing was kind of a gamble to go after that night, and I am pleased with the result.
