The galaxies M95 and M96 belong to the same group (of which M96 is the dominant galaxy) and are both barred spiral galaxies. The sizes are comparable (93,000 LY for M96 and 73,000 LY for M95), so both are a little smaller than our galaxy. They are located at equivalent distances (35 MLY for M95, and 40 MLY for M96). M95 has the specificity to present a very well marked inner ring which is a very active star formation region.

Les galaxies M95 et M96 font partie du même groupe (dont M96 est la galaxie dominante) et sont toutes les deux des galaxies spirales barrées. Les tailles sont comparables (93 000 AL pour M96 et 73 000 pour M95), donc toutes les deux un peu plus petites que notre galaxie. Elles sont situées à des distances équivalentes (35 MAL pour M95, et 40 MAL pour M96). M95 a la spécificité de présenter un anneau interne très bien marqué et très actif en formation d'étoiles.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
