Description

The Lagoon Nebula Messier 8, NGC 6523 is a gigantic interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius that's within our Milky Way Galaxy, located about 5,200 light-years away from Earth and covers an area of ​​space of about 140 by 60 light-years. The Lagoon is one of the finest star-forming regions in the sky. It is divided by a dark lane of dust and near the center we can see the open cluster NGC 6530 composed of several bright stars, which will have formed inside only a few million years ago.
