The Sadr Region (also known as IC 1318 or the Gamma Cygni Nebula) is the diffuse emission nebula surrounding Sadr (γ Cygni) at the center of Cygnus's cross. The Sadr Region is one of the surrounding nebulous regions; others include the Butterfly Nebula and the Crescent Nebula. It contains many dark nebulae in addition to the emission diffuse nebulae.

Sadr itself has approximately a magnitude of 2.2. The nebulous regions around the region are also fairly bright. [Source: Wikipedia].

CAPTURE Information:

The image was captured with the iOptron CEM120 mount , the venerable Meade 12"LX200 SCT, and my Atik 383L+ mono CCD at F7.16 (2182mm FL).

Image subs were taken through Astronomik's narrowband filters Ha, SII and OIII.

IMAGE information -- 2020

Ha : 25 subs (4.17 hr) on Aug 9th and 10th.

OIII : 23 subs (3.83 hr) on Aug 9th and 10th.

SII : 21 subs (3.33 hr) on Aug 9th and 10th.

All exposures were at 10 minutes (600s) each, 1x1 bin and -10C.

Processing was done with PixInsight, following (for the most part) kayronjm's tutorial of Feb. 24th from several years back.

Ha, SII and OIII were combined after integration/crop/DBE for creating the Hubble Palette, using PixelMath and the following formula:

Red = SII

Grn = Ha

Blu = OIII

Luminance was created using only subs from the Ha filter.

North is up (pretty sure), and this is a very slight crop due to the various movement of different subs.

COMMENTS:

As was true of the Lion Nebula (SH2-132), this complete nebula is somewhat larger than my setup’s field of view. Consequently the presented image is the central 50% of the total.

As typical of my processing I over did the color. However, I was pleased to achieve some of the colors done by more talented folks than me.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
