Description

I ran out of patience waiting for the weather to cooperate....now the Moon is up. So I decided to post this HaRGB image without luminance. Not sure I will collect lum now...we'll see. I was surprised to find out that the galaxy is not my favorite part of this image, but rather the open cluster at upper right. I think the absence of lum has benefited star color, and the "cluster of grapes" structure in the cluster is intriguing. just how close are those stars together? My dark sky prevented the depiction of the intervening dust and gas that permeates this region of the galaxy. The battle against noise necessitated a darker than normal image. Maybe a bunch more hours will allow me to pick up some of the fine structures.

Heat was one of my biggest adversaries during this shoot, with nighttime temperatures between 25 and 28 degrees C. I could not achieve the -20 degree sensor cooling I normally use. In fact, the blue channel was calibrated using a -20 master dark while the best cooling I could acheive was -17. There didn't seem to be any detrimental effects.
