Description

I've been working on a project in Orion and Monoceros for a month or so now with M78 as one of the targets. It's a gamble for my Bortle 7 back yard but I wanted to give it a try. Well the first image here is the result of 1 hour each of RGB, 2 hours of luminance and 4 hours of Ha. Far worse than meh!! So I was thinking need more time etc etc then I thought I know I've shot this before from a dark site and I combed through the archive and to my total surprise found the second image. I think this was taken around 2007 from the Cincinnati Observatories dark site at Stonelick State Park. Scope was an E160 camera was STL11000, it's a bit dated but I smiled when I saw it! Nice bit of irony, moving on to the cone nebula now I definitely don't have a good dark site picture of that. Going to give up on reflection nebula from the back yard now!!!!

Description: M78 Shot in circa 2007 from Stonelick State pack outside Cincinnati not sure of the exposures but I'd guess 6 by 300 s each for RGB and 12 by 600 s for Ha. The benefits of a fast scope and Bortle 4 skies!!!
