Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a faint planetary nebula, one of the many PN in the Weinberger catalog.  It is located 5000 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros at a declination of -10 degrees.

This is one of the few PN for which I could not find a magnitude.  It spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.

The HII signal is much stronger than the OIII signal throughout the nebula.  Note that the PN appears “squashed” – perhaps it is being deformed by the ISM, or we are just looking an an elliptical PN at an angle.

The bright blue central star could be the progenitor star.
