Description

This object is a faint tiny planetary nebula located 13,000 light years away in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a declination of -22 degrees.  It spans only 15 arc-seconds in our apparent view, a bit smaller than our current view of Mars.  This corresponds to a diameter of 1 light years.

The wonderful Hubble image in the mouseover shows the PN in much better detail, including the progenitor star which is not visible in my image.  I don’t understand why the OIII doesn’t show up very much in the Hubble image.

This PN looks very similar to Minkowski 3-1.  The most striking feature are two 2 bipolar point symmetric HII ejections, visible in both the central nebula and of course the 2 curling end ansae.  My PN Ansae Collection is here.
