Description

This image captures a group of galaxies, all located about 400 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +40 degrees.

The highlight here is the pair of lenticular galaxies at the center of image.  NGC 6175 is the smaller orange galaxy. The larger white galaxy just above is NGC 6175N, with a diameter of 140,000 light years.  Although there is not much indication of  interaction, I believe they are interacting because of the odd shape of the star halo in the bottom galaxy.

This object is part of the Abell 2197 galaxy cluster, whose center (NGC 6173) is just beyond the top center of this image. I am struck by the number of spiral galaxies throughout the frame, instead of the typical elliptical majority.
