Description

This object is a wonderfully intricate emission nebula located 3000 light years away in the constellation of Cepheus at a declination of +57 degrees.

The “Elephant Trunk” bright rimmed globule featured in this image is over 20 light-years long. At the center of the left end of the trunk are two young T Tauri stars. These stars have carved out a cavity in the globule from their powerful stellar winds. Dark dust clouds permeate the region.

A wider image of this region is shown here. I enjoyed that view but I thought it would be fun to try to capture more details in the Trunk with the C11. I used some of the wider work subs to enhance this image.
