Description

Although not discovered by Charles Messier, the "Sunflower Galaxy", nevertheless, holds the coveted 63rd spot in his infamous catalogue of "Not Comets". Detailed HST images of the central core depict the reason for the galaxy's moniker - a speckled stellar and gaseous interior reminds one of the seeds that cover the center of its flower namesake. M-63 resides over 29 million light years away among the 'Hunting Dogs' of the Northern Hemisphere.
