LDN 1622 et LDN 1621 sont une paire de nébuleuses sombres qui se trouvent devant une vaste zone de nébulosité d'émission qui fait partie de la boucle de Barnard au centre d'Orion. Cette zone fait partie du nuage moléculaire Orion beaucoup plus grand.
On pense qu'ils sont situés à 500 années-lumière de nous. Ce complexe de nébulosité sombre est parfois appelé la nébuleuse Bogeyman, bien qu'il existe plusieurs orthographes différentes, notamment Boogeyman, Bogey Man, Boogey Man, Boogieman et Boogie Man. Elle est aussi parfois appelée la nébuleuse du Fantôme. Ces nébuleuses ont été cataloguées par Beverly T. Lynds en 1962.

English Version

LDN 1622 and LDN 1621 are a pair of dark nebulae that lie in front of a large area of emission nebulosity that is part of the Barnard's Loop in central Orion. This area is part of the much larger Orion molecular cloud.
They are believed to be located 500 light years from us. This complex of dark nebulosity is sometimes referred to as the Bogeyman Nebula, although there are several different spellings, including Boogeyman, Bogey Man, Boogey Man, Boogieman, and Boogie Man. It is also sometimes called the Ghost Nebula. These nebulae were cataloged by Beverly T. Lynds in 1962.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.

This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
