Description

This wide field image of IC 1396 (Elephant Trunk Nebula) Sh2-129 (Flying Bat Nebula) and the surrounding region was captured on the nights of November 6-8, 2020 using a short telephoto lens, a dual narrowband filter, and a OSC DSLR. This is image includes the H-alpha data from the red channel.

Imaged with 85mm/F1.4 Rokinon at F/2, STC Duo Narrowband Clip Filter, and full spectrum modified Nikon D5300.

Total integration time was ~9 hours using 88 subs at ISO400 x 360 sec. Pre-processed using PixInsight Batch Pre-Processing (BPP) script. Images calibrated using darks, bias, and flats. Extracted red/green/blue channels using BatchChannelExtraction script. R, G, & B channels registered and stacked independently using StarAlighment and Integration. R channel data gives the Ha image. Averaged G & B channels using Pixelmath to generate OIII image.

R and Average of G+B channels individually post-processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with ABE. Post-process using EZ Processing Suite for PixInsight: Denoise, Decon, Soft Stretch, HDR, and Star Reduction. Further processing using local histogram tranformation and morphological transformation processes.
