Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small triple galaxy system, all located 250 million light years away in the constellation of Hydra at a declination of -11 degrees. It was classified by Dr. Arp into the category of Galaxies with Amorphous Spiral Arms.

The large disturbed lenticular galaxy at center is MCG-02-25-006. Its bright section is 45 arc-seconds wide in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years. Including the extended star streams doubles its size. The structure of this galaxy is fascinating – bright yellow core and inner section, a star stream outer disk which extends towards both companions, and 2 distinct blue star streams in the mid-region.

The elliptical companion to the right is 2MASX J09362516-1119441. The lenticular companion below is LEDA 3098245.

No distance is available for the two galaxies to the right in the image. I believe that these latter 2 spiral galaxies are larger in size and much further away.
