Description

Located in the Contelation of Taurus was discovered in 1054 and astronomers have been able to light the forces that operate within it as "a Pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star which emits gamma rays to radio waves with a spin rate of 30.2 times" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ46S7sQ5hM

The Crab Nebula always caught our attention and with good reason, after seeing the various videos of NASA/ESA with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes. I couldn't wait to get down to the new data that Maurizio had acquired.

Reviewing the work done in April 2021 I remember that it was very exciting to start it with new sessions and that they surely had better data than the first time I did it in April 2020, exactly one year before with only 45 min. of data.

It was a job that took me more than two weeks to finish. I produced about 25 stack files between DSS and Siril, experimenting with the algorithm type and script of Ha and [OIII]. The data made with the Enhance and Extreme filters was stacked apart to obtain those two types of files.

I made channel combinations incorporating the information provided by Ha and [OIII] giving  SHO and HHO palette colourization. The Starnet ++ was used to achieve the separation of stars with the data obtained from the L-Pro filter stack and the nebula was isolated to work it separately.

I found that the key on the details was basically produced by the Ha in B&W image worked with small steps of the PS Tool High Pass, then applying Raw Therapee in the treatment of noise to enhance the definition and Denoise AI but with very, very soft touches. Later this result was incorporated as luminance in both palette colourization versions.

With this trial and error I think it was possible to exalt the maximum in the details with the current gear that we have. I know that we will not be able to reach the definition level of mono cameras, but we were very excited about this result.

I am sure that we will return again to this wonderful and extraordinary planetary nebula, when we have the opportunity to experiment with a new OTA.
