Description

This is an image of galaxy NGC6744 that lies 30 million light years away in Pavo.

Like the Milky Way, NGC6744 is an intermediate spiral galaxy. Although this galaxy shares the same morphology as our own galaxy, it is twice the size at 200,000 across compared to the Milky Way's 100,000 light years.

Companion dwarf galaxy, NGC6744A can be seen at roughly the eight o'clock position

The image was challenging to process due to gradient problems. I've not yet worked out how it entered the data set.
