Description

I finally got around to editing the OSC color version enhance with the Ha data with only 1 clear night to capture in the last 3 weeks. Data is somewhat limited and never could bring out detail and saturation at the same time. Still pretty noisy as well. Once again a lesson to be learned about being patient with C9.25 and getting more data and not impatiently moving onto the next target.

The crab nebula is a striking supernova remnant with the initial supernova being document in 1054. The supernova brightness could be seen for 23 days during the daytime and 654 nights. Named the crab nebula because it was thought to look like a crab in the 1840s.

The nebula is about 6,300 light years from earth and has been accurately measured to be 11x 13 light years. The nebula continues to expand at 1,800 km/second allowing astronomers to track the expansion over a 12 year period.
