Description

Here we have my try at Centaurus A. Centaurus A is a a peculiar galaxy that is thought to be the product of a merger between an elliptical or lenticular galaxy and a spiral. It lies approximately 12 million light years away and has a radius of approximately 48,000 light years. There is a super massive black hole in the center of this active galaxy which blasts out a jet. I have seen some amateurs capture this jet but even in my Ha shots, I saw no sign of it.

The foregoing information was in part obtained from the nasa.gov website and in part from wikipedia.

This galaxy is another that is placed very low in the sky from my location at about 14 degress above the horizon at its transit. However, with the global pandemic I find myself with both some time and some really good weather, so I thought I would give it a shot. Much like my recent stab at Omega Centauri, my view is obstructed by trees and so I had a very short window of time to work with. But with the fast f/2.3 imaging, I think I've done what can be reasonably done considering the altitude of the subject at my location 32.9N latitude.

I hope you like this one, it was a lot of fun to do as I find this to be among the most strange and interesting galaxies in the sky.

CS and be well...
