Description

I spent the last month or so putting together a 6 panel mosaic of the Heart and Soul Nebulas.  I needed something to image earlier in the evening while I wait for them to rise out of my eastern light dome, so I chose the Tulip Nebula region.  I imaged the Tulip last year, and earlier this year I turned it into a mosaic by adding a second panel to pick up some interesting stuff out of frame.  I also imaged WR-134 earlier this year, which I found pretty cool.  It's just out of frame of my Tulip mosaic, so I decided to expand to a 2x3 mosaic to pick it up as well.

Some of the additional panels are a bit thin on subs (about 2 hours worth), but my weather has turned to crap and this target is already past the meridian by the time it gets dark enough to image, so I think this will be it this season.  Maybe next year I'll tack on some more panels and pick up the Crescent as well.

One new thing I tried processing this is the stars.  I didn't have enough time to add a 6 panel RGB for stars.  I find that my SHO stars can tend toward the yellow.  I experimented trying stars from a HOO combination, but those can be too red.  I found blending the SHO and HOO stars together worked fairly well.  This might be my new technique when doing SHO instead of spending separate time on RGB, especially for mosaics.

The original mosaic was more square, but the bottom quarter doesn't have a lot of nebulosity, so I cropped it to 8x10 ratio.  I lost the little SH2-104 ball nebula in the process, but it just kind of stuck out like a sore thumb by itself in the corner.

Description: I cropped down the starred version. The little SH2-104 ball in the lower left just seemed out to place and this ratio is more print friendly.
