Description

NGC 1097 is a face-on barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Fornax. At the center of the long bright 5' x 2' bar is a large bright 50" x 30" oval core with a stellar nucleus. From the northern tip (lower-left side of the core on the image) of the bar a very faint spiral arm sweeps east (right) and then curls slightly back toward the core. A short arm fans west from the southern tip (top-right side of the core) of the bar. SW (left hand side) of the core another small detached narrow glow (shown, PGC 10479).

This is a simple LRGB composition. H alpha didn't show any help in revealing the star forming areas.
