An image of NGC 253 processed with StarNet++ to remove stars. This also removed the background galaxies, so I had to add those back in manually!

The idea is that this is the view you would get if you imaged NGC 253 from outside our own galaxy i.e. without the foreground stars - perhaps from a planet orbiting an intergalactic star (

This shows how galaxies are indeed very isolated "island universes".
