Description

The California Nebula, catalogued as NGC1499, it's a huge emission nebula located in the Perseus constellation. It's located 1.500 lights-years away from Earth and it's around 100 light-years long, occupiying an anguklar size in the night sky of several full moons.

This annotated version of the original image shows several galaxies present in the field.

To compose this image two panes were needed to create a multichannel mosaic. Most of its detail comes from the Halpha filter that captures most of the emission that comes out from the emission nebula.
