Description

NGC 2249 (also known as ESO 57-SC82 ) is an open star cluster located in the constellation Dorado. This cluster is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud . British astronomer John Herschel discovered it in 1834. Steinicke mentions that NGC 2249 is an open cluster, but its image (in particular, that obtained from Hubble Space Telescope  ) and other references  suggest that it is rather a globular cluster. The age of the stars in the cluster is estimated between 330 million and 1.3 billion years.
