IC 405 FLAMING STAR NEBULA IN HA

The IC 405 nebula, also called the Flaming Star Nebula, SH 2-229, or Caldwell 31 is an emission / reflection nebula in the Auriga constellation that surrounds the blue star AE Aurigae and shines to an apparent magnitude +6.0. Its celestial coordinate is AR 05h 16.05m with a decline + 34 ° 27 ′ 49 ″. It is located near the emission nebula IC 410, the open clusters M38 and M36 and the K-class star, Hassaleh also known as Iota Aurigae or Al Kab.

This nebula has an apparent size of 37.0 'x 19.0' (approximately 5 light years) and is about 1500 light years from Earth. It is believed that the movement of the central star can be traced from the Orion Belt, since it is a fugitive star.

The red tones in this nebula are formed by interstellar hydrogen (with dark filaments, carbon-rich dust compounds) which, when impacted by the massive light emitted by AE Aurigae, loses electrons and when the hydrogen proton recombines those electrons the atom emits a red light This region is known as emission nebula.

As for the blue tones these originate thanks to the reflection of the star light in said interstellar dust, this other region is known as reflection nebula. The purple tones are simply a mixture of that red and blue light emitted by the star.
