Description

While I was integrating my frames of IC447 I noticed that some trails were removed which did not resemble the trails of normal satellites. I Blinked through the frames and found that I have accidentally captured a huge asteroid. Platesolving identified it as (490) Veritas. I checked its characteristics and this is the biggest asteroid that I have captured up to now - diameter of 118.803 km. Wow Veritas was discovered on 03 September 1902 by a German astronomer - Max Wold at Heidelberg Observatory. Its orbit is between Mars and Jupiter and completes for a period of 2063 days or 5.65 years.

Here I found a 3D model of the asteroid:

Images were taken on 9th and 10th of February Y2023.
