Description

As the monsoon continues to linger here in Arizona, and me with two new projects stalled with no clear skies to allow me to move them forward, I decided to process some additional runs of Saturn I did on September 2.

I had tried to process this group previously but I did not like the way the image developed.  I had been trying to get better resolution and was culling a great percentage of the frames from the videos, all the way down to 10% or 15% with the thought that being so selective would result in better resolution.  But the results had bad artifacts and strange "cuts" in the final image.

So in this attempt at processing these data, I decided to go the other way and allow a much greater percentage of frames to be used in stacking.  This resulted in much more "headroom" for NR and wavelet adjustments.  I also constructed a "ring mask" to allow me to to do certain elements of processing in different ways with respect to the planet and the rings.

In the end, I used a 42% stack rate over the best 8 video runs of 14 which resulted in a final stack of over 18,000 frames for this image.  I think it is a pretty good improvement over my previous Saturn image from earlier in the month.

I hope you like this one and comments and criticism always welcome!

CS and good health....

Description: Less NR, applied some different settings in WinJUPOS... Thank you Niall, I think this is a little better.
